Trans formative Hair Transplants in Montreal for Natural, Lasting Results

Dr. Doumit is a household name in the field when it comes to providing high quality hair transplant services in Montreal, as he uses state-of-the-art surgical techniques to produce exceptional hair transplant results. Dr. Doumit has an excellent level of hair transplantation skill and artistry developed to achieve the best possible result; hair transplantation techniques produce two results: a natural look and no detectability. Hair transplants should always grow without visible evidence of surgery. In addition, with the extraction of the follicular units, the donor site is almost imperceptible (no scarring). Your hair transplant will look great long after the surgery.

WHAT IS HAIR TRANSPLANTATION / HAIR TRANSPLANT SURGERY?

Hair transplantation is performed on individuals who have generalized hair loss, patchy baldness or hairline receding. Male pattern baldness usually develops only in a horseshoe shape around the head (hair loss, thinning on the crown or top of the scalp). However, hair loss in women is more often a diffuse thinning of the hair on the head. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a natural hormone, is the main reason for hair loss in both men and women. However, the hair at the back of the head is resistant to the effect of DHT. Therefore, they are the best donors for transplantation because they are genetically programmed to retain their natural color for a long period of time and are much more resistant. Dr. Doumit meticulously dissects these follicular units (natural bundles of 1 to 4 hairs that emerge from the scalp together) from the back of the head. He then precisely plants these follicular units, creating the most natural and undetectable hair growth possible.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF HAIR TRANSPLANTS?

The different types of hair transplant surgery procedures used by Dr. Doumit are

FOLLICULAR UNIT EXTRACTION THROUGH MICRO-INCISIONS:

Very small holes are made around each hair follicle on the back and side of the scalp that are no larger than 1.0 mm in diameter. Each individual follicle will then be lifted with forceps from the donor section of the scalp and transplanted to bald spots. Scarring is much less visible than the linear strip technique. It is, therefore, more appealing to many patients especially for those with very short hair at the back of the head.

FOLLICULAR UNIT GRAFT (LINEAR STRIP METHOD):

A strip of the scalp will first be removed from the back of the scalp (donor section). The wound will then be closed with absorbable sutures using a trichophytic closure technique, which produces a linear scar. The scar will become almost imperceptible in most patients over time. The donor strip will then be divided under a microscope into small natural groups of 1,2,3 or 4 hairs, called follicular units for hair transplantation. Dr. Doumit will then anesthetize the recipient’s scalp and make very small incisions, called recipient sites. The follicular unit grafts are then precisely placed into the recipient sites.

SCALP REDUCTION OR FLAP SURGERY:

After injection of the scalp with a local anesthetic, a section of bald scalp is removed, and the adjacent flap of hair-bearing skin is lifted from the surface while still attached at one end. The skin is moved to the bald spot and sewn into place. Flap surgery gives an immediate result. One flap can usually do the equivalent of 350 grafts.

HOW IS HAIR TRANSPLANTATION / HAIR GRAFTING PERFORMED?

Hair transplant surgery in Montreal is performed under local anesthesia. Dr. Doumit will design and mark your new root with your active participation. The donor area (back of the head) is defined and anesthetized.

Donor site: If a hair band is removed, the incision is then closed. If the hair is removed individually, there will be no incision and no scar.
Transplantation of hair grafts. If a strip of hair is used as the donor hair, the small grafts are distributed for hair transplantation in your bald areas.
Recipient site: The recipient’s scalp is anesthetized and small slits of about 1 mm are made in the scalp with a needle. The hair follicle grafts are then precisely inserted into the slits to ensure that the transplanted hair grows in a natural direction. Once the hair transplant surgery is complete, your scalp will be cleaned and covered with absorbent gauze. You may need to wear a pressure bandage for 48 hours after the procedure or frequently apply saline solution to the implanted area to aid in healing.Follicular extraction with micro-incisions is Dr. Doumit’s preferred hair restoration technique. It is the state-of-the-art technique in hair restoration surgery. It eliminates the donor site scar and almost all of the drawbacks of previous surgical techniques.

WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT?

Hair transplant surgery does not produce immediate results. In the majority of patients, hair falls out of the grafts after hair replacement surgery. The hair will begin to grow back three months after the procedure. The donor sites in follicular unit extraction hair transplantation leave little or no scarring. In a follicular unit transplant, the incision gradually heals to leave a linear scar that is hidden by the hair around the site. Generally, several hair transplant procedures may be required to achieve satisfactory fullness. At least six months are generally recommended between each session.

HOW IS THE RECOVERY TIME?

Dr. Doumit makes great efforts to minimize discomfort during the procedure. He will prescribe pain medication for a comfortable recovery. Most of our patients do not use them at all. Patients can return to work a few days after surgery. Some patients may experience swelling of the face and eyelids.

IS HAIR TRANSPLANTATION / HAIR GRAFTING SAFE?

All surgical procedures carry certain risks. Possible complications during hair transplant surgery can include: poor growth of hair follicles, unnatural appearance of transplanted hair, scarring at the donor or recipient site, tightness, infection, bleeding, skin necrosis. If you are considering this procedure, it is important to trust a qualified and experienced physician.Dr. Doumit will take the time to truly understand your needs and expectations and ensure a satisfactory outcome.
